Jerry Hadley, a Remembrance, PArt 1

July 18th 2021 marked the 15th anniversary of Jerry Hadley's death.  I never did a tribute to him. I was afraid of upsetting the family.  Now is a good time.   Our paths first crossed at New York City Opera, Sept. 16, 1979, LUCIA as Arturo. Gianna Rolandi and Richard Fredricks are in the background.

FALSTAFF, also New York City Opera, March 12, 1980, Jerry as Fenton, Jonathan Green as Dr. Caius, Norman Large as Bardolfo, Charles Long as Ford and Ralph Bassett as Pistola.

Jerry as Alfred, FLEDERMAUS,  Sept. 19, 1981, Act I

BOHEME Feb. 27, 1982  as Rodolfo. I don't remember who sang Mimi, sorry.

PEARL FISHERS, Mar. 1982 Jerry as Nadir and Alan Titus as Zurga

On to the Met,  ONEGIN  Mar. 1989, Jerry as Lensky.

Also at the Met, COSI,  Jan. 1990, Jerry as Ferrando, Tom Hampson as Guglielmo, Richard Van Allen as Don Alfonso.

In each case I've chosen images for emotion.  That's what Jerry delivered on stage, impact as well as gorgeous singing.

More images in next post.

I was present at several of the performances pictured. Spent an evening in Chicago getting rather drunk with Jerry and a Baritone named Thomas H. His death was a shock.
